Verwood’s 5th Talented Youth Concert – 20th March 2010

 Verwood’s 5^th Talented Youth Concert takes place in The Verwood Hub theatre on Saturday, 20^th March with concerts at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.  The younger performers are in the afternoon concert, but several of the participants are in both concerts.  There will be a wide variety of entertainment from solos, to dance groups, musical items to a karate demonstration with ages ranging from the very young to teens, some performing for the very first time. Others have become regular favourites. 

 Tickets with reserved seating are available from the Hub on (01202) 828740 at £5 adults and £3 for children.  Organisers, Mike and Angela Daymond hope that the community at large will support the event and see just how talented the young people are.

You can book up to 2 weeks ahead. Driver availablility is not gauranteed but the Facilitators will try and match your requirements.

MUGA PROJECT

(Verwood) Multi Use Games Area

Active Games for All is a group of Verwood residents who formed a committee with the intention of fundraising for a multi use games area in the town (MUGA).

The facility is being proposed for the corner of the Memorial Ground in the centre of Verwood and would be situated behind the Memorial Hall. The group is independent of the local council and is chaired by local resident Pat Morrow.

A consultation was held on the 4th April 2009 in the Memorial Hall to give the public an opportunity to vote on their favourite design and talk to members of the committee as well as different exhibitors and see to how the plans would affect the Memorial Ground.

The aim of the group is to provide a facility that all members of the community will want to use. This includes facilities for older residents, as a result, the consultation will feature exhibitors with equipment specifically designed for older residents to try. Active Games for All do not wish to encroach upon any existing users of the Memorial Ground and were keen to show the public that the proposed MUGA will easily coexist with the other activities that already take place in the ground.

VERWOOD MEMORIAL HALL 
GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATION
(Opened 9th May 1959)

Over the past four years there have been a large number of improvements made to the Verwood Memorial Hall.

On Saturday, 9^th May – exactly 50 years since the unveiling of the plaque and the inaugural ceremony at the hall, the Committee held a celebration and exhibition to mark the Golden Jubilee.

Wanted - Old Photographs etc.

The Committee are looking for photos taken at events at the Memorial Hall over the past 50 years that could be copied and displayed, or used to compile a souvenir and kept in the archives.

Photos can be sent by email to pamron(at)talktalk.net or post to Mrs P Reeks, 49 Moorlands Road , Verwood BH31 7PD with a stamped addressed envelope if you wish the original to be returned.

Were you there 50 years ago when the Memorial Hall was inaugurated?

Verwood Area Fiftyplus Forum

An independent ACTION Forum for people aged 50 and over

Including Alderholt, Chalbury Common, Cranborne, Edmondsham, Horton, Mannington,
Three Legged Cross, Wimborne St. Giles and Woodlands

Forum Meetings are normally held every 3 months

at Verwood Royal British Legion Club or The HUB from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Volunteers Needed

In a new initiative, the partnership of WRVS and Dorset County Council are piloting a ‘self-referred’ meals service – so that people who fall beneath the Local Authority ‘eligibility criteria’ can have a hot meal delivered.

 As numbers and uptake increases, we will need additional volunteers to assist us to deliver this new initiative.

 If this opportunity appeals to you and you have 2 hours a week to spare between 11.30 -1pm, any day of the week, anywhere in the County -  please contact the WRVS Dorset Food Manager for more details.

Library books Delivered to your door 
for FREE

Verwood Library wants to hear from residents who are housbound and would like to have books delivered straight to their door. The service is FREE and avialble to all ages if you are unable to leave the home due to disability, illness, or if you are caring for someone that cannot be left alone.

Music Grants for Older People

The Concertina Charity makes grants to charitable bodies which provide musical entertainment and related activities for the elderly. The charity is particular keen to support smaller organisations which might otherwise find it difficult to gain funding.
